Before you start

An Apple Watch system that supports custom workouts; some workout types do not support them.

This guide explains the timer setup, not a training prescription. Choose work duration, recovery duration, and repetitions around your own plan.

01Create a custom workout

In Workout, find Run, tap Goals, choose Custom, then tap Add. Older versions may use More > Create Workout.

02Add work and recovery

Tap Add, choose Work or Recovery, then choose time, distance, or open. Add the segments and repetitions your plan requires.

03Review and save

Check warm-up, repetitions, and cool-down. Give the workout a recognizable name, save it, and review the whole flow before using it.

That’s it

You can see each planned segment before starting and receive a prompt when it is time to switch.

Questions you may have

Why can’t I find Custom?

Confirm that your system and workout type support the feature. Menus can move between versions; the official guide below provides version-specific help.
